Tony is a firm believer of "you can't manage what you can't measure". This belief inspired him to invest in building a recreational fishing App with friend, John Murphy. This App provides a fun and easy way to record catch. It is important because it helps to enhance fisheries management. The data collected will be critical in building a picture of local, regional & national recreational fishing interests.

Associated with the App, Tony has also set up the Fish4all Charitable Trust to create an independence in the way the data is managed and used. The Trust Chair is Chris Falconer and current Trustees are John Murphy, Tony Craig and Colin Holden. Nominations for further Trustees are welcome. (Get in touch Community interest is growing:

  • Kaikoura coastal guardian group Te Korowai o Te Tai o Marokura signed an agreement with the trust in early 2016 to use the App to better understand recreational fishing there.

  • Bayly’s Beach Family Conservation Day committee approached us for materials to hand out.

  • A Curious Minds Science Camp included the use of the App in one of their sessions.

  • We had over 500 conversations with keen recreational fishers who stopped for a chat at the 2018 Tauranga Fishing and Boat Show.
