In 2021 LINZ partnered with Manatū Ahu Matua (Ministry for Primary Industries), Te Papa Atawhai (Department of Conservation), and Te Arawhiti (Māori-Crown Relations), to secure funding from the Te Tari Taiwhenua (Department of Internal Affairs) Digital Government Partnership Innovation Fund (DGPIF).

This Marine Data Innovation Project is part of the Marine Geospatial Initiative and, using datamesh technology, aims to enable improved management of the marine environment through improving access, integration and reuse of high-value marine spatial data.

The project has two kaupapa:

  1. a technology proof-of-concept, and
  2. engagement with kaitiaki o te moana (Māori marine guardians) to embrace te ao Māori worldviews in relation to marine geospatial data.

The project findings will inform a recommended future state for marine geospatial data.

Terra Moana is supporting LINZ to deliver Kaupapa Two.
